What moissanite is
Moissanite is a silicon-carbide gemstone and is not a type of diamond. Jewellery-grade moissanite is generally created in a laboratory. Its optical character is different from diamond: it often shows more rainbow-coloured fire, so compare both stones in the kind of lighting where the ring will be worn.
Durability and daily wear
Moissanite measures about 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale, while diamond measures 10. Hardness describes resistance to scratching, not whether a complete ring can be damaged. Setting height, prong condition, band construction and the wearer’s activities also matter. Remove fine jewellery for work or sport that could strike, crush or catch the ring, and have the setting checked if it receives an impact.
Price and stone identity
Moissanite usually provides more visible size for a given budget than diamond, but compare the actual product configuration rather than a generic price-per-carat claim. Lab-grown diamond is diamond; moissanite is a separate gemstone. Review the selected stone, dimensions, setting, metal, certificate details and current checkout price before deciding.
Environmental claims need evidence
The impact of any gemstone depends on energy, manufacturing, transport and supplier practices. This guide does not make a blanket environmental, ethical or traceability claim. Ask for documentation tied to the specific product if those factors affect your choice.
Compare the available designs in the moissanite engagement-ring collection, review stone and certificate information, and confirm your measurement with the ring-size guide.
